FAIRMONT — Threshing Day is a go this Sunday at Heritage Acres in Fairmont. Heritage Acres president Jerry Simon shared that there will be a variety of events for people to enjoy this year, and the day will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. According to information provided by Simon, Barefoot Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen will be part of the events.

The band is usually a part of Heritage Acres’ annual music festival on July 4. But Simon stated that things weren’t quite set in stone as far as Covid-19 safety restrictions, so the band was shifted to the Threshing Day celebration. Simon shared some of the other things that will be going on over the course of the day.

“I think it’s all ready to go,” he said. “The machinery is all ready to go, the people are all ready. On Sunday we’ll get everything out.

“There will be a Pedal Pull along with a Micro Mini Tractor Pull at 1 p.m., but we’re going to try and stretch it out so the pedal pull kids can see that. We’ve got plenty of food with beans, potato salad, desserts, and a drink for $8. Pork chops on a stick will also be available.

“We’re planning for 200 people, but it could be that since we moved stuff from the Fourth of July, we might have a lot more this year. “If anybody wants to wear a mask they can,” he said. “We wipe everything down with disinfectant and we’ve got hand sanitizer at the doors.”

New this year is the covered wagon and then we ordered a tipi that will be set up by the log cabin.

“We’ve got a Native American lady coming down from Mankato to teach Indian History, and I think she’s going to concentrate on wild edibles. But that will be up by the cabin, and then we’ve got the blacksmith coming up from Iowa, bouncy houses, our little kids’ train rides, and our wagon that we give tours around the property with.”

“The whole thing is in memory of Bob Brolsma who had died a few months ago. He was our go-to guy for threshing because he was big into threshing with horses. He had all the horse-drawn equipment and it was converted to tractors for us. They’re going to bail hay and maybe cut silage, but I’m not sure.

“There’s also an antique tractor show out there, so there’s plenty to do. It’ll be a great day to be out there.”
