BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's soccer team was victorious in its final match of the regular season, beating Utah State 2-1 Thursday afternoon at Boas Soccer Complex. The Broncos also celebrated senior day for the six graduating student-athletes in Aubree Chatterton, Keile Hansen, Julia Lewis, Kennedi Paul, Kiara Simpson and Sydney Smith.

"I thought we were the better team today," said head coach Jim Thomas. "I feel like we've been the better team many times this year, but this time we found a way to get three points. I wanted to walk away from this match and be able to say that we represented our seniors well today. We fought for them, we made sure they knew that we loved them and that we handled the moment enough to give us a chance to qualify. That's all you can ever ask for."

The Broncos overcame a slow start and began to control possession near the first quarter of an hour. The scoring opened in the 17th minute when Abby Bivens ripped a shot from outside of the penalty box that bounced off of the crossbar and down into the net.

The Aggies responded in the 31st minute as a floating ball toward the box was headed in by Ashley Cardozo to even the score 1-1. Then just before halftime, freshman Carly Cross dribbled the ball around the penalty box and sent a shot toward the near post, scoring her first-career goal and reclaiming the lead for the Blue and Orange.

The second half was a back-and-forth affair, with each team making threatening runs toward the goal. As the final seconds ran down, Boise State was able to clear a late free kick from Utah State and the Broncos earned their 10th victory of the season and sent the seniors off with a win.

"This senior class stood by me," said Thomas. "Each of them has gone through adversity and it hasn't come easy for them no matter what they've had to carry. To stand by your coach and stand by your program and find a way to influence it, whether you're a player or if you're a player that doesn't get to play very much, is a testament to this group. I'm really proud of them, they've made us better they are an example of how to be a Bronco that we'll be using for many years to follow."

Barring the shortened 2021 spring season, this is now the fourth season in a row in which Boise State has won 10 games or more, the longest streak in program history. It is the fifth 10-win season for Thomas since he took over the program in 2013.

Boise State finishes the Mountain West regular season with 15 points. The Broncos now need a loss from UNLV and a loss or a draw from San Jose State to secure their place in next week's MW Championship.
