Day & Dauenhauer Snag Poles In Italy - SPEED SPORT - SPEED SPORT

CAMAGNANO DI ROMA, Italy – Alon Day and Tobias Dauenhauer snagged the pole awards as the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season ends at Autodromo di Vallelunga in Italy this weekend.

Day is in position to become the first four-time Euro Series champion. Dauenhauer, the EuroNASCAR 2 leader, topped his 30-minute session.

Day needs a perfect weekend and a bit of luck to claim his fourth EuroNASCAR PRO title this weekend.

The three-time champion was just .098 seconds quicker than Formula 1 standout Jacques Villeneuve.

Championship leader Loris Hezemans qualified third, .306 seconds shy of Day.

The Hendriks Motorsport driver from the Netherlands carries a 21-point advantage over Vittorio Ghirelli into the EuroNASCAR Finals.

Ghirelli and Gianmarco Ercoli rounded out the top five.

Giorgio Maggi followed in sixth and second in the special classification for drivers 25 and under, while veteran Nicolo Rocca came seventh.

Patrick Lemarie, Romain Iannetta and Sebastiaan Bleekemolen completed the top 10.

Fabrizio Armetta topped the Challenger Trophy standings over Davide Dallara and trophy leader Henri Tuomaala. 

Only three points separate Dauenhauer and Martin Doubek ahead of the two final double points EuroNASCAR 2 races.

Duanehauer ran a lap of 1 minute, 41.135 seconds and beat Vladimiros Tziortzis .335 seconds for the pole.

Simon Pilate, Francesco Garisto and Justin Kunz rounded out the top five.

Championship contender Doubek finished sixth.

Zolder winner Naveh Talor clocked the seventh fastest lap of the session, while Leevi Lintukanto topped the Rookie Trophy standings in eighth. 

The quickest Legend Trophy driver was Max Lanza, who also led the special classification for drivers 40 and over.

Pierluigi Veronesi rounded out the top 10.

Rookie Trophy leader Alberto Panebianco qualified 11th.

The first EuroNASCAR PRO Final is slated to start Saturday at 1:10 pm Central European Time, while the EuroNASCAR 2 championship starts at 4:20 p.m.

All races will be broadcasted live on EuroNASCAR’s platforms: YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, the NWES app and Motorsport.tv.
