SEATTLE – First came head-to head singles matches against host Washington at this weekend's Husky Invitational.

Washington finished the 2020-21 season at No. 43 in the final ITA national rankings. In the 2021-22 ITA Top 125 Preseason Singles Rankings, Sarah Maude-Fortin checked in at No. 124.

Then came singles matchups against Washington State which wound up at No. 53. Michaela Bayerlova is ranked No. 47 in the ITA Preseason Rankings.

On Sunday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, DePaul concluded its rigorous challenge in the Pacific Northwest taking on an Oregon team that finished last season at No. 46.

Yuliya Kizelbasheva had the best performance of the day for coach Marisa Arce's team after knocking off Uxia Martinez Moral by a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Freshman Eleanor Nobbs was awarded a victory when Myah Petchey was forced to retire after leading 6-0, 5-4.

Marija Jovicic dropped her opening set to Lillian Mould 6-4 but battled back to win the second set 7-5. Mould prevailed in the end by a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 result.

Kaya Rand battled through eight tiebreaks before falling in the first set to Misaki Kobayashi 7-6 and came up short in the second set 6-4.

No doubt the upper-echelon tennis the Blue Demons encountered this weekend will pay big dividends on Oct. 22 when the talented doubles team of Lenka Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva compete at the ITA Super Regional in Columbus, Ohio.
