Jayathma Wickramanayake, the UN Secretary-General's youth envoy, said that while young women have been some of the "most vulnerable" during the pandemic, "they’re also often the most resilient in times of crisis." 

"All over the world we have seen young women rise to the challenge and take leadership in the Covid-19 response and recovery effort as doctors, nurses, educators, community organizers and care givers. As the UN Secretary-General's envoy on youth, the best part of my job is engaging with and learning from young women, young activists all over the world who are leading action in their local communities on an everyday basis," she said. 

"Even though structure and bias often present young people’s participation, particularly of young women, they still find radical ways to take the lead and resolve challenges. Young women are a force to be reckoned with."
