There’s no Grapefruit League game for the Nationals today, but that doesn’t mean they are taking the day off. How are they spending their Monday?
“We’ll have some early defensive work for some guys, and then we’ll play probably a 4-5 inning sim game,” Davey Martinez told reporters after Sunday’s matchup with the Mets.
“Get some pitchers some work, some bullpen guys some work, and it will kind of be a shorter day, but we’ll definitely get some work in.”
The point of the sim games and B-games the team is playing, the manager explained, is to get all the pitchers still in camp the work they need.
“These things are for us about the pitching. Trying to get pitchers innings. Also too we’ll watch — [Gerardo] Parra is going to play center field. Guys that are moving around to different positions, they’ll get to play some different positions. For me I want to take a look at what these guys can do in other positions.”
