Pop icon Britney Spears took to social media on Monday to thank everyone behind the #FreeBritney movement for their support leading up to the end of the conservatorship that has restricted her freedoms since 2008.
Spears showed her gratitude to the forces behind the #FreeBritney movement and highlighted their instrumental role in shaping the outcome of her contentious conservatorship in a tweet: “#FreeBritney movement … I have no words … because of you guys and your constant resilience in freeing me from my conservatorship … my life is now in that direction !!!!! I cried last night for two hours cause my fans are the best and I know it …” she wrote.
She followed up with another tweet in which she wrote, “I feel your hearts and you feel mine … that much I know is true.”
Fans and friends also expressed their affection for the 39-year-old pop star on Twitter and wished her well:
Some supporters reiterated their unwavering support for the star on Instagram, where Britney reposted the tweet. Spears’s fiancé, Sam Asghari, commented on her post, writing, “From a scale of 0-Britney how free are you?” Musician Miley Cyrus also celebrated Britney in a comment: “You look soooooooo good,” she wrote. “High School Musical” alum Vanessa Hudgens chimed in with even more affection, writing “We love you Brit” beneath the singer's post.
Model and actress Ruby Rose wished Spears nothing but the best, writing: “Britney, you deserved so much more. You have sacrificed so much and given so much to the world.. Thank god for god and your fans and others in your life who helped find a slither of justice here. I hope you get to now enjoy the life you did more than earn, and I hope the light keeps shining on others in a similar terrifying position. You are so strong. What a woman. Be so proud. You are loved.”
The Twitter and Instagram posts come after Jamie Spears was suspended as his daughter’s conservator on September 29. The suspension, which signals the end of the turbulent conservatorship that controlled and restricted her freedoms, also represents a moment of triumph, relief, and vindication for the people behind the #FreeBritney movement who stood by the singer throughout her journey.
A hearing is set for November 12 to determine whether the conservatorship will end completely.
On Sunday, NBC reported that Spears is focusing on “healing” after the announcement of her father’s suspension as her conservator, a position he occupied for 13 years.
